Radio 1's target audience is 15 - 29 year olds all over the UK as they are a national station. The radio station is set up and broadcasted from their studios in London. The radio station has many different presenters covering the shows daily, probably the most popular is Nick Grimshore with his Breakfast show each morning between 6.30 and 10.00 AM. This show is aimed at people on their way to work or people doing the housework or teenagers walking to school. Most people listen to the radio in the morning so this is why Radio 1 have tried so hard to put a good Breakfast show on air.

BBC Radio 1 have a phenomenally wide range of music formats such as Dance, hip-hop, RnB, Pop and chart, indie and rock. The variation of music formats is due to the fact the stations target audience is the younger generation which typically have a varied taste in music.

During the day the radio station normally play B-list and C-list songs as Radio 1 don't get as many listeners during the day. Their prime time for listeners is in the morning and evening, so this is when they play the A-list tracks.
In my opinion I think that the Radio 1 is effective at catering for its target audience. This is because the station plays a wide variety of songs and artists which is what 15-29 year olds want to hear.
